Today The Car Spotter brings you information on the scheduled Range Rover Evoque Convertible that is set to be in production by 2016.

Despite individual modification’s to create convertibles from 4x4s in the past. This will be the first convertible 4×4 to be in production on a large scale.

Back at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the concept version was shown and Land Rover is set to add the convertible to the Range Rover Evoque line-up range.

Since the Geneva Motor Show, the spy shots show the car has lost the clip-on fabric roof in favour of an electric fabric roof.  rest of the car’s styling remains the same.

It is the only 4×4 convertible of its kind and is described to be ‘exploring the potential for the world’s first premium convertible SUV.’

The Range Rover Evoque has been a huge success for Land Rover, so I wonder if the trend will continue with the convertible variant. The Evoque has been popular for its urban, fashionable, distinctive body shape and Land Rover badge. It has been extremely popular with young professionals, families and for people who don’t want to make the leap to a full size Range Rover.

The convertible idea is certainly a fresh one to the market, a strange combination to combine 4×4 capabilities with an open top, perhaps.

Gerry McGovern, design director explained, ‘The Evoque lends itself beautifully to the idea of a convertible. This study is not a traditional convertible design execution – instead we have worked with the balance of the Evoque’s lines to retain its distinctive shape and create something that is unique and, we believe, highly desirable.

No official dates and figures have been released yet, however announcements are expected to be made later in 2015, with production starting in 2016. Prices will be slightly higher than the regular Evoque, so potentially a starting price above the £40,000 mark.

What are your thoughts on the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Convertible?  Would you purchase a Land Rover Range Rover Evoque convertible?
