Today The Car Spotter will be discussing the latest addition to the Dubai Police departments fleet. The supercar comes in the form of the plug-in hybrid £100,000, ($150,000 or €141,000 or 550,000AED) BMW i8 that is capable of performing 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph (250km/h).

Dubai and Abu Dhabi Police departments amongst other countries are known for having luxurious and high performance vehicles at their disposal.

You can read about the Abu Dhabi police department recently adding a Rolls-Royce Phantom to their fleet here. Just imagine being escorted to the police department in the back of a luxury Rolls-Royce Phantom. It’s almost worth being arrested for.

The Dubai Police BMW i8 was unveiled on Wednesday at  Dubai Police Event various Major Generals and Police Force members were present. The BMW i8 is finished in Dubai Police green and white livery.

Major General Khamis Al Muzeina, Dubai’s police chief, who test drove the car, says, “through this fleet, the Dubai Police aims at enhancing its law enforcement presence at significant tourist attractions such as the Burj Khalifa, Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, and Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR).”

He outlined, “Using the latest technology and vehicles, he will bring Dubai’s forces to the highest global standards in terms of security.”

Al Muzeina added, “the luxurious fleet promotes Dubai Police’s public image and encourages the community to interact with them.”

Local forces have  said the BMW i8 helps them achieve their goal of becoming more environmentally-friendly. The plug-in hybrid produces 362bhp and is the first eco-friendly version in supercar history.

The BMW i8 will join Dubai Police supercar and motorcycle collection which includes a Lamborghini Aventador, a very rare Aston-Martin One-77, a Mercedes SLS, a Bentley Continental GT Speed, a Ferrari FF, a Bugatti Veyron, a McLaren MP4-12C and a Can-am Spyder superbike.

I think that if the Dubai Police have the funds at their disposal then why not? The BMW i8 promotes alternate forms of fuel being a hybrid and still has the performance figures to match. In places like the UK it would perhaps seem like overkill due to the budget cuts however in  a place like Dubai where they have surplus funds and already have a large supercar collection it makes a nice addition. The BMW i8 police car is sure to boost community interaction as it is a real head turner and it will definitely promote the Dubai Police image as desired.  What are your thoughts?
