Whether you purchase a brand-new model or a second-hand vehicle, your car is a significant investment. As a result, it’s important that new drivers are aware of the steps you can take to prolong the lifespan of your car – saving you a great deal of time, money and effort. One of the easiest ways to achieve this goal is to make car care your priority.

With that in mind, here are some car care tips that will keep your car in good working order.

Carry out regular car maintenance tasks

The first step towards keeping your car in the best possible condition comes down to good maintenance. For example, while you may already be aware of the most common car problems – many of them are unpreventable, meaning that regular maintenance is also necessary. For example, you should test your car’s tire pressure regularly to ensure that they are roadworthy. To put it simply, maintenance stops your car from breaking down and saves you hundreds of pounds in doing so.

Install an obd reader.

While some car repairs must be left to the experts – there are many tasks that you can handle yourself. However, in order to know exactly what is required of you to fix your car, you must first be able to identify the exact problem. One way in which you can do this is by using an obd reader, which allows you to study the data stored within your cars onboard system so that you know what repairs need to be carried out. These diagnostic tools are a great way to cut the cost of car repairs, especially as it means you’ll be able to deal with problems as soon as they arise.

Stay safe on the roads

It goes without saying that road safety should be your number one priority when you get behind the wheel – whether you are driving alone or with other passengers. However, safe driving is also good for your car because it reduces the chances of you getting into any accidents that could damage your vehicle. For example, when you are alert and focused when driving, you are far less likely to get involved in an accident that could cause damage to your car.

Service your car regularly

Currently, it is recommended that drivers have their cars surfaced once every twelve months – or every 12,000 miles for those that spend a lot of time on the road. However, many drivers are reluctant to have their car serviced this regularly due to the costs associated with the process. However, they can actually save you a great deal of money in the long run as they can help you to identify warning signs of major issues in your vehicle – meaning they can be addressed as quickly as possible and before they have the chance to cause long term damage. Additionally, they ensure that you will be safe when behind the wheel – which is something that you cannot (and should not) put a price on.
