After yesterday’s blog article about the new Ford GT, today The Car Spotter will be staying with the latest releases from the Ford Performance team and bringing you information about the new Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang which was also unveiled at the same Detroit Motor Show.
It has been labelled as the most hardcore Mustang ever and it is easy to see why.
Visual changes include lightweight carbon fibre alloys, huge rear spoiler and diffuser, vented wheel wells, bonnet vent and the alloys are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.
Items removed from the car to save weight include air conditioning, rear seats, stereo, boot carpet, reverse camera and tyre inflator. In total combined with the lightweight 19-inch carbon fibre alloys that reduce weight by 6kg per corner, the weight of the car has been reduced by 60kg, the equivalent of a small to medium sized passenger.
Mechanically, the Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang has over 500 bhp and 400 pound-feet of torque (678Nm). A Torsen limited-slip differential assists in putting the power on the floor.
The same 5.2-litre flat-pane V8 engine from the GT350 has remained and it has been confirmed that the GT350R will be road legal and not just reserved for the track.
I think the car looks very aggressive, more so than a standard Ford Mustang. The colour scheme suits the car and the reduced weight and popular 5.2-litre V8 engine are sure to be a great combination. The racing stripes and wide diffuser around the body of the car really add to the overall appearance of the Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R.
The Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R appears to be finished in the same blue paint as the brand new Ford GT.
Ford have stated the car will enter production before the year is over.
