Today, The Car Spotter will be discussing another written off supercar. The incident involved a McLaren MP4-12C but this time the damage wasn’t caused by reckless driving. Instead the McLaren MP4-12C supercar was in a trailer when the driver got caught on the train lines at a crossing in Orange Park, Florida.

The driver managed to escape before the train ploughed through the trailer however the £168,500 McLaren supercar was less fortunate.

The British mid-engined supercar was being transported to the local dealership for maintenance when the driver apparently stalled his car on the train tracks.

The McLaren MP4-12C is able to complete the 0-60mph sprint in just 3 seconds and can continues to a top speed of 213mph (343km/h) due to the 592bhp (441kw) and 601Nm (443lb-ft) of torque produced by the 3.8 litre V8 twin turbo engine. This is connected to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission system.

Judging by the trailer writing, the trailer belonged to Dimmitt Automotive Group. The McLaren MP4-12C suffered serious damage to both sides, with wheels being caved in and the driver’s side looking particularly nasty.

Apparently the driver said he jumped out of the car three minutes before the approaching train came through however he was unable to get authorities to warn the train driver about the hazard on the train track. The driver has allegedly been charged by the Florida Highway Patrol with ‘Insufficient Undercarriage Clearance’ due to the fact he attempted to cross the train tracks in an area that does not allow the crossing of the tracks.

What a shame to see such a magnificent McLaren MP4- luxury supercar so badly damaged due to a moment of human error. The McLaren MP4-12C has been produced in Woking between 2011 and 2014 in Woking, Surrey, England. This particular model was the coupe version that featured black exterior paintwork, gunmetal alloys and orange brake calipers.

I hope the MP4-12C is repaired, but that will definitely be a costly affair based on the current damage. It is unclear if insurance will cover the costs at this stage.

What are your thoughts on the damaged McLaren MP4-12C?
