When I was driving from Germany to the UK in September, I was filling up at a petrol station in Berg, Bavaria when the Volkswagen Golf GTI MKV pictured came to my attention.

10a Golf GTI

The black Golf GTI had a few subtle modifications, including some lime green colour coding and a new exhaust system. The mirrors, rear bumper diffuser and VW badge had all been custom painted in lime green. Everything else about the car remained the same, as far as I could see. This doesn’t mean the engine was stock and it could well have had some enhancements to match the custom exhaust which definitely wasn’t the stock GTI twin exhaust backbox. The five spoke GTI polished silver alloys still remained on the car which I am a big fan of.

I thought the modifications were not too vulgar and relatively tasteful. The lime green accents looked good against the metallic black paintwork of the Golf. The modified VW Golf GTI made a much bolder statement than a factory Golf GTI with metallic black paintwork alone would. Modification is all about personal taste and unique customisation.
