One of my favourite car duos was in London back in 2010; the Koenigsegg CCXR and Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SV in custom baby blue/turquoise colour. A different Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SV was discussed in my fourth blog article, an SV that I saw whilst in Dubai. The cars were owned by Al-Thani family, the ruling Family of Qatar and rumoured to be given to the children as gifts. The Qatari Investment Authority have been the owners of Harrods since 2010, and obviously felt it necessary to showcase their wealth by arriving in this supercar and hyper car combination costing near to 1.5 million pounds.
The first car is a turquoise/baby blue Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SV, the SV model was a final model to mark the end of the life-cycle of the Murciélago, before the Aventador production started. Of the 350 models planned to be created, only 186 were made due to timescales and the introduction of the Aventador production line. The numbered cars 1-350 do not represent the order in which the cars were built.
The SV is a more hardcore, extreme and track-oriented version of the Murciélago. SV models are released at the end of each model’s production run. The LP670-4 SV weighs 100kg less than the standard Murciélago, produces 670PS; hence the name and has an additional 29bhp from the same 6.5 litre V12 engine. Visual changes include altered body kit, larger exhaust, optional larger spoiler, colour choices, Italian flag brakes, SV decal on rear quarter and the rear quarter air intakes are still present, one of my favourite touches on the Murciélago.
The second car is the Koenigsegg CCXR. Incredibly rare with fewer than 40 in the world and definitely a car that deserves hyper car status whilst simultaneously conforming to eco standards. The CCXR is a more environmentally friendly version of the CCX, with the same 4.8L twin-turbo V8 but converted to use E85 and E100 ethanol fuel in addition to standard octane petrol. The car can reach top speeds of 250mph plus and has an estimated price tag well north of 1 million pounds.
The CCXR was chosen by Forbes as one of the ten most beautiful cars in history in March 2009.
Earlier this year in April 2014, the turquoise/baby blue Koenigsegg CCXR went on sale at Al-Ain Class motors in Dubai with only 2,112 miles on the clock. This is a showroom that has the reputation of being the most prestigious and luxurious showroom in the world due to the exotic cars featured. Having visited the showroom myself, I can say these credentials were most definitely met.
The pair of exotic cars are one of my favourite duos and the Qatari owners are extremely lucky to have owned them. I think the colour makes the cars stand out even further and clearly with the amount of wealth the owners have, parking tickets and clamping doesn’t faze them.
