On Friday 21st November in Wellington, there were a plethora of Ferraris parked outside the Intercontinental hotel in the city centre.
A lineup of red, white and black Italian supercars all harbouring the famous yellow prancing horse.
Usually, the entrance to the Intercontinental features a Bentley Flying Spur and a long wheel base BMW 7 series for hotel chauffeur purposes, but today on this sunny Friday morning, neither of these cars were anywhere to be seen. A fleet of cars, a little more exotic had taken their place as a matter of precedence.
Underneath the porte-cochère were five Ferraris, varying in model.
The closest, parked diagonally, alongside two others was a red 2018 Ferrari Portofino. The 2+2 (2 seats in the front, 2 seats in the back) grand touring sports car hard top convertible Ferrari Portofino is the successor to the Ferrari California.
This particular model was finished in red with a black roof. The interior, black seats with contrast red stitching and red carpet.
With four seats, a 0-62mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 199mph, it is a cruiser enjoyed with the top down to make the most of that beautiful sounding Ferrari V8 and quad exhaust configuration.
Parked next to this was a 2018 Ferrari GTC4 Lusso in white. Introduced in 2016, the four seat grand tourer has a 6.3L V12 engine capable of 335 km/h, (208mph) and accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62mph) in 3.4 seconds.
The GTC4 Lusso produces 681bhp in total.
Alongside the GTC4 Lusso was a 2018 Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T in black. The main difference between the two cars is given away by the singular ‘T’ letter which outlines the car is equipped with a twin turbocharger setup and a smaller displacement engine.
Instead of the 6.3L V12, the Lusso has a 3.9L V8 twin turbo engine which creates 602bhp with a top speed of over 320km/h (199 mph) and accelerates from 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds, a marginal 0.1 seconds slower than the V12 version.
Sat right against the entrance to the Intercontinental was a 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB in white and 2014 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta in red.
The two seater white Ferrari 488 GTB featured a black roof and matched black alloys with yellow brake calipers shining through. Succeeding the Ferrari 458 in 2015, the Ferrari 488 GTB will be in production until 2020 when it will be succeeded itself by the Ferrari F8 Tributo, more of that release to follow.
The 488 interior included the additional extra option of lightweight racing carbon seats in black. The mid engine sports car features a 3.9L twin turbocharged V8 engine is capable of producing 661bhp.
The fifth Ferrari was a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. The elongated bonnet is a defining feature of the Ferrari F12, underneath is the huge 6.3L V12 engine which outturns a monstrous 731bhp. Paired to a dual clutch 7 speed gearbox, the rear wheel drive supercar is every bit capable as the figures suggest.
With a 0-60 time of 3.1 seconds, it’s worth selling your house for the $380,000-$700,000 NZD price tag the Ferrari F12 will set you back.
The star of the show was introduced later in the day and granted red carpet status, standing out like a sea of blue, the first Ferrari F8 Tributo to grace New Zealand was displayed for all to admire.
This is the first Ferrari F8 Tributo in New Zealand.
The F8 didn’t have road legal registration plates because it isn’t licensed to New Zealand roads yet, instead displaying dealership plates. Not available to purchase and drive until 2020, the glimpse at the Ferrari F8 Tributo provided onlookers with a sneak preview at Ferrari’s latest production supercar.
Finished in special Blu Corsa exterior paint with forged glossy brilliant silver rims and yellow brake calipers, the bright shiny paintwork and specification of this Ferrari F8 Tributo drew a lot of attention.
The nero black interior had the additional optional extra ‘standard racing carbon seats’ which featured a blue stripe, matching the exterior Blu Corsa colour.
The magnificent red Ferrari F154 V8 could be seen through the vented engine cover.
The Ferrari F8 Tributo pays tribute to all Maranello V8 Ferraris in the last 20 years. The F8 will succeed the Ferrari 488 of which there was one also present, mentioned and pictured earlier.
The twin-turbocharged 3.9L V8 engine creates 710bhp, this is an additional 49bhp compared to the 661bhp produced by the Ferrari 488. 0-100km/h (0-62mph) takes just 2.9 seconds. To reach 125mph, a mere 4.2 seconds.
The retail price when the F8 Tributo goes on sale in December will begin at $293,480 USD, the equivalent of $457,183 NZD so get saving.
