During December and January 2013/14 I visited Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Known for its wealth and luxury, the cars on display there certainly didn’t disappoint.

Fortunately, the hotel was a stone’s throw from the Jumeirah Beach Walk, famous for showcasing some rare and exotic vehicles. Particularly on an evening, individuals will drive down the cobbled street to show off their automobiles.

Everything from American muscle, retro classics and the latest supercars can be found on the Jumeirah Beach Walk at any given point.

One particular night outside the Hilton hotel was a duo of rare supercars. The Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SV and a white Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster.

Although the Murciélago LP670-4 Superveloce is a rare car to begin with, only 186 of the scheduled 350 being produced, in true Dubai fashion the car has been wrapped in an iridescent golden orange colour to make the car that little bit more unique. The rest of the car remains unchanged however, with the uprated  black SV wheels remaining and the large spoiler and huge exhaust on the rear of the car.

The Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SV is capable of performing 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 212mph when equipped with the larger spoiler, 208mph with the smaller version. The Lamborghini has a total output of 661bhp. Back in 2009, the car was priced at $400,000 USD or £270,038 before any optional extras.

The SLR McLaren Roadster pictured was in white with black multi-spoke alloys and a red leather interior. The roadster version of the SLR went on sale in September 2007 and has the same V8 6.2 litre AMG engine as many other of the cars in the AMG range.  The car develops 617bhp and has an acceleration of 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds with a top speed of 208mph. The extra weight of the folding mechanism of the roadster hinders performance and handling slightly.

Of the two vehicles, I would take the Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SV but with the colour restored to its factory output.

More Dubai articles to follow.
