Today The Car Spotter will be talking about headline news, Jeremy Clarkson being suspended from Top Gear and this week’s episode being cancelled until further notice. The status of the final two episodes have been cancelled until further notice.
Rumours are circulating that 54 year old Jeremy Clarkson has punched producer Oisin Tymon, 36 because his dinner was not ready on time in Newcastle and lack of food on set. Only time will tell if these allegations are true however this Sunday’s Top Gear episode has already been cancelled. Instead a program about the Red Arrows features in its place. The broadcasting of the two final episodes is also uncertain.
A source has told the Daily Mirror, ‘It was all over a catering issue. They came to the end of filming after a long day and Jeremy discovered that no food had been laid on.’
‘He just saw red and hit the assistant producer, who he blamed for not having organised the food. He snapped.’
A different source told the Sun, ‘Jeremy had a massive bust up with one of the male show producers and he ended up smacking him in the face. Everyone was absolutely stunned.’
While a friend of Jeremy Clarkson’s said: ‘He didn’t punch anyone’.
A BBC spokesperson has confirmed that Clarkson is the only person to be suspended over the incident. This comes after Clarkson’s final warning in 2014 after racist nursery rhyme allegations.
Other circulating rumours include ITV preparing for a £10 million bid to try and steal Jeremy Clarkson from BBC.
Jeremy Clarkson is like marmite to most. People tend to love him or despise him. He is outspoken and brash, creating many controversies in the past. A petition has already begun under the heading BBC: Bring Back Clarkson and currently has over 290,000 signatures. The phrase #BringBackClarkson is also trending online, the initials forming an obvious stab at the BBC.
Jeremy Clarkson was pictured outside his home and drinking in his local pub, stating, ‘I’m having a nice cold pint and waiting for this to blow over’.
Personally I think Jeremy Clarkson has his funny moments however his actions are often questionable. If true and he has lashed out at a producer then actions like this should have consequences. It is easy to see why people despise him due to his care free nature and belief that his thoughts and ideas are always correct, with little room for negotiation. His past actions have raised eyebrows, including political and racist incidents. Having said all this, BBC will be in a difficult position because Jeremy Clarkson is very popular among large groups of Top Gear fans, with people claiming the show wouldn’t be the same without him, which it probably wouldn’t. Other comments suggest the most popular motoring programme, Top Gear has long been due an overhaul. People have Chris Evans as a favourite to replace Clarkson if he is sacked, but I’m sure there are plenty of petrol heads who would like the job and multi-million pound pay packet.
What are your thoughts on the allegations of Jeremy Clarkson punching a producer? Do you think he should have been suspended? Do you think he should be replaced by somebody else? If so, who?
